Low Cost & Limited Scope

Sometimes your resources are limited, but expert help is still available

What are Limited Scope Legal Services?

Limited scope legal services are ones where you retain a lawyer to give you limited assistance instead of full representation.  This can be help with:

  • Identifying the Legal Issues and Relevant Issues:

    • Lawyers have the ability to advise you about how to approach your case including advising you what information would be required by the courts, and what possible issues you should consider.  They can also advise you whether or not your case has merit.  We can make sure that you file the correct forms and that you know how to proceed with your case.

Although no lawyer can predict the outcomes, having solid advice at the beginning can save substantial time and substantially increase your odds of a successful result.

  • Drafting your Court Documents:

    • To protect your interests and ensure your Court forms contain all the necessary and legally relevant information, it is highly recommended that you consult with a lawyer and have them assist you.  This will protect your legal rights and ensure your evidence is before the Court in the correct form.   We can either advise what forms you require, review your drafting, or provided drafting services by lawyers or paralegals with lawyer review, for less overall costs that full representation.  You will then file and serve the documents and represent yourself.

    • We can draft all documents any family law or child welfare proceeding, including but not limited to: Statements of Claim, Notice to Disclose, Family Law Claims, Affidavits and Statements, Disclosure statements, Confirming Letters, Offers, Appeals, Settlement agreements, Cohabitation or prenuptial agreements, custody agreements, support agreements, trial readiness forms, early case intervention forms, and Case management pleadings.

  • Ongoing Legal Advise:

    • Sometimes you don’t need representation, but you want a lawyer on retainer so that you can have one person to give you advise and to consult with as you move through your matter.

  • Limited Court Representation:

    • Do you need someone to appear for you for a single family matter but not the whole thing.  Our lawyers may be able to assist on a case by case basis.

  • Mediation Services:

    • Do you and your ex partner want a mediator for your family situation?  Our experienced lawyers are all trained in mediation and can provide mediation services for a single issue or for your entire family matter.  Family lawyers know the law and can predict ranges of settlement that are in line with current legislation and with what Alberta Courts are doing at this time.  Often mediation is the fastest and most economical way to move through your family law situation.

Please contact our office to discuss mediation as an option for your situation.  We prefer to arrange a conference call with both parties if mediation is a potential option and neither party is yet represented.  This allows both of you to get the same information and have all your questions answered at the same time.

  • Divorce/Separation Coaching:

    • Often people need support to best move through a divorce in a way that is emotionally, financially and with your “sanity” intact.  Our paralegals are uniquely trained to give you advise and support throughout your divorce process, so that you may better be able to work with both your ex and the courts in a way that is productive.   Divorce coaches have the ability to reduce the amount of conflict and therefore overall costs in your situation.

  • Court Training:

    • We will help you understand the ins and out of the court system so you can best represent yourself.
